One of these days I plan to drive myself to a "red-interiored" restaurant (is interiored a word?) and enjoy
twice as much food as my stomache usually is happy with! What I mean by this is what I alluded to a few weeks ago about
color psychology, apparently studies have been conducted and the results are in...we eat twice as much food in a red room. Most of us know (who actually care about such things)
that colors vibrate, they give off visual sonic vibrations like the pulsating hum from an old factory mill on the edge of town. These vibrations come in many flavors: they hum quick aggitated ripples all the way to slow elephant-like waves of sound
. Here's my thought; I think red pulsates in long and deep band widths - like slow hungry lion roars...go look at something red for 20 seconds...go right now!...
can you feel it? are you hungry? I'll take mine with mayo on the side!
Monday, September 17th - 4:20 PM I took a ride to Boston to see a new restaurant that Englund
Studio is designing branding for. First of all they have the best
hot wings I ever had - suicide-homicide...names like that. They're located in a cool little neighborhood 2 miles
from Fenway Park. we'll start with the logo design and at the
same time design for the interior of the restaurant, after that
many ideas will flow into their delivery program. All in all it's very exciting! Today is logo day at Englund Studio (it just happens to be that
way today) I am designing brand identities for both a music label
and a new spicey restaurant, both located in Boston. Also the
web development for the Rhode Island Heritage Hall of Fame is
coming along nicely. In the next few days we're deploying a massive
email marketing campaign targeting the sports and toy industries,
our goal is to bring in 6 new clients that need both illustration
and packaging. As the weeks unfold I'll be letting you know how
that goes and I'll be introducing you to some of the new clients
from that campaign. As you can tell, I tend to write these towards the end of the
day. Englund Studio is continuing to receive many great responses
for the new site - a very good sign! I'm working on a brand identity
for a new spicy restaurant in Boston (name under wraps), and continuing
the web development for the RI Heritage Hall of Fame. The Hall
of Fame honors fellow Rhode Islanders who have contributed to
the heritage of the state of Rhode Island. Anyway it's time to
eat - talk soon! It's time to take a late afternoon coffee break for another blog.
It can get quiet and lonely here during the day, I forgot to put
iTunes on, and this usually fills the air with eclectric sounds
from around the world - Long Live Internet Radio!!! Speaking of
music, I'm reading this marketing book by Martin Lindstrom called
Brand Sense, this book is a must have - it's about building powerful
brands through touch, taste, smell, sight, and sound (one of my
top favorite senses) check this out: Did you know that currently
83% of all commercial communication appeals only to one sense
– our eyes. Hey... what about the other four senses? This
is extraordinary given that 75% of our day-to-day emotions are
influenced by what we smell, and the fact that there’s a
65% chance of a mood change when exposed to a positive sound.
No wonder it felt lonely here today. I'm going to talk more about
the sense of sound and the integration of it in a brand in the
next few weeks, branding is not just about a logo, it can and
could be much more. Gotta go, the sweet sound of my coffee alarm
just went off...mmmmm! smells good too! Thanks for reading the first blog from Englund Studio. I just
met a commercial photographer named Marc
Creedon from Marc Creedon Photography- Very talented guy,
anyway he convinced me to write a blog which I was debating doing,
then after thinking about it I thought 'Yeah, I think people might
like to know what's going on inside my head so check back often
(to the blog-not my head)- I'll have lots of inside information
regarding graphic design, color psychology and marketing trends!
Thanks Marc!
